Subsonic wind-tunnel testing for a high-speed flight vehicle

We ran a multi-entry subsonic wind-tunnel campaign for Hermeus, which is developing a high-speed flight vehicle. The work covered test planning, model design, instrumentation, testing and data processing.

Challenge, method, outcome

Challenge

Measure the low-speed aerodynamics of a scaled model of a high-speed vehicle: stability and control across angle of attack and sideslip, and the effect of configuration changes.

Method

Several tunnel entries, planned and run by one team. Angle-of-attack and sideslip sweeps, configuration changes, ground effect, and corrections for flow angularity.

Outcome

The campaign produced aerodynamic databases for the customer. The testing is subsonic. Results are client-confidential.
