A small firm,
by design.

KC Engineering, Inc. is an independent consultancy operating at the intersection of experimental aerodynamics, machine learning, and dynamic control. We work small, publish openly, and accept only the engagements we can deliver to a journal standard.

[ 01 ]   ORIGIN

A decade on the U.S. Air Force Academy research bench.

KC Engineering has served as a prime contractor to the USAFA Department of Aeronautics Research Center for over a decade — three consecutive cooperative agreements spanning subsonic and transonic wind-tunnel testing, active flow control, aero-elastic methods, and dynamic stability.

That bench has produced an archival publication record across JFM, JFS, the AIAA Journal, and the International Journal of Flow Control — and delivered production ML/AI tooling to industrial clients in ocean energy and aerospace.

[ 02 ]   LEADERSHIP

The principal.

Every engagement is led directly by Dr. Casey Fagley. There is no proxy layer.

FOUNDER & PRINCIPAL ENGINEER

Dr. Casey Fagley

Casey founded KC Engineering after a post-doctoral appointment with the United States Air Force Academy Department of Aeronautics. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Wyoming (2010), with a research focus on modeling and control of high-dimensional non-linear systems.

His practice spans the three pillars of the firm — experimental aerodynamics, machine learning integrated into engineering systems, and data-driven control. He has authored across the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, the Journal of Fluids & Structures, the AIAA Journal, IFAC, and the International Journal of Flow Control, and has built production ML/AI tooling in PyTorch and Streamlit for industrial clients.

[ 03 ]   OPERATING PRINCIPLES

How we work.

Five operating principles we make decisions against — when it's easy and when it isn't.

001

First-principles answers, not analogies.

If we don't understand the governing physics, we say so. We do not paper over an unknown with a curve-fit and a smooth slide deck.

002

Publishable proof.

Whatever we deliver, we deliver to a journal standard — verifiable, reproducible, and defensible to a hostile reviewer.

003

Small team, senior throughput.

We do not staff a pyramid. Every engagement is led by a principal, and the deliverable is touched by senior engineering from first scope to final report.

004

Integrated discipline.

Hard engineering problems cross fluids, structures, sensing, and control simultaneously. Our practice is built to deliver across those boundaries as one capability.

005

Mission-driven clients.

We choose engagements where the work matters: defense, government R&D, aerospace pioneers, and energy. The bar is the problem, not the budget.

006

Mentorship as a deliverable.

Cadet, student, and post-doctoral researchers we work with leave with authorship, fluency, and a foothold in the technical community. That is not a side effect — it is part of the contract.
